What You Might Be Wondering About EMDR

What is EMDR therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they no longer feel emotionally triggering. It’s especially powerful for healing trauma, anxiety, and PTSD.

Do I have to talk about everything that happened to me?

Not at all. EMDR allows you to process painful experiences without needing to relive or narrate every detail. Many clients find it more empowering and less retraumatizing than traditional talk therapy.

Is EMDR right for first-generation or BIPOC clients?

Absolutely. At Intentional Therapy, our culturally-informed EMDR therapists understand the weight of generational trauma, identity conflict, and cultural expectations. You won’t need to explain “why it matters”—we get it.

How long does EMDR therapy take?

While experiences vary, many clients report relief within just a few sessions. For deeper work, we also offer EMDR Intensives—multi-hour sessions that accelerate healing and reduce emotional fatigue over time.

Our Team
At Intentional Therapy PLLC, we specialize in providing culturally-attuned, non-traditional therapy for BIPOC individuals, particularly those from South and East Asian backgrounds. Founded in March 2021 by Parthi B. Patel, a first-generation South Asian American, our practice understands the unique challenges faced by first- and second-generation individuals, such as bi-cultural identity struggles and intergenerational trauma.

"We’ve created a space where you don’t have to explain your culture—our therapists ‘just get it,’ because we’ve lived it."

We have since expanded our practice to include other mental health professionals. Each of our therapists has unique areas of specialization and expertise, allowing us to collaborate and provide a range of care to individuals, couples, families, and organizations.
