In 2021, during the height of the *Zoom revolution* and a global mental health crisis, I faced my own existential reckoning. As a licensed therapist, I was living my childhood dream—yet I couldn’t ignore the questions gnawing at me about the traditional therapy world I was steeped in.
Working in the corporate therapy system, I often saw clients of color leave sessions looking more confused than when they walked in. Therapists meant well, but many struggled to understand why family dynamics looked different across cultures.
When your parents are immigrants working 16-hour days to give you everything... when you are the eldest daughter, the *first-born*, and the only girl... or when you’re the first in your family to go to college but are still expected to take care of everyone... why arranged marriage is still a conversation... *conventional advice like* “just set boundaries” isn’t enough. It oversimplifies layered histories, deep responsibilities, and unspoken loyalties that shape how people show up in relationships.
Therapy should recognize these truths—not dismiss them—so that healing can happen in ways that feel authentic and sustainable.
So, I left. And I built something new—a space where therapy could finally meet people where they are.
Intentional Therapy PLLC was born from this collision of professional expertise and personal exhaustion with systems that weren’t built for people like us.
The vision was clear: create a space that truly *honors history and culture.* A space where your therapist doesn’t blink when you talk about arranged marriages, code-switching (because let’s be real—some things just don’t translate), or the weight of carrying family expectations. Therapy that begins with understanding. Sessions where you don’t have to explain or defend your experience—you can simply show up and do the real work: uncovering who you are beneath it all, and learning to be seen and heard as your whole self.
This isn’t your cookie-cutter private practice. We’re doing the messy, beautiful work of honoring cultural contexts while using therapeutic approaches that actually make sense for our clients’ lived experiences. We explore identity, relationships, and family dynamics without forcing anyone to choose between cultural values and mental health—because that’s a false choice our communities have carried for far too long.
Now, as we approach our 6-year anniversary, we has grown into something I am proud of—something my family is proud of. And that pride means more to me than anything.
We remain committed to redefining what culturally competent therapy truly looks like. We champion the dismantling of mental health stigmas in BIPOC communities and work every day to bring *realistic, accessible wellness* to those who have been underserved for far too long.
Our promise is simple: to ensure every person feels seen, heard, and empowered in their healing journey.
CEO & Founder
Here's what I learned early on: burned-out therapists can't pour from empty cups, and our clients deserve clinicians who are thriving, not just surviving.
My motto: "I don't expect you to do what I don't want to do."And I mean that quite literally. You won't catch me answering emails at 9pm because I've been in bed since 8pm, so I don't expect you to either. I don't set goals for my own life based on what other people think I should want, so I'm not going to impose my vision of your career trajectory on you either.
Our mission to our team is simple but radical in this field: we prioritize your well-being first. Full stop. No martyrdom, no glorification of overwork, no "just one more client" when you're already at capacity.
This means we adapt to you and what actually works for your life, your schedule, your professional goals, and your personal values. Want to specialize in couples work? Great. Prefer individual therapy? Perfect. Need Fridays off because that's when your kid has soccer? Done. This practice bends to fit your life, not the other way around—as long as you have 2 weekday evenings and/or a weekend open (because let's be real, people need therapy when they're not at their 9-to-5s too).
We've built a culture where work-life balance isn't just something we talk about during hiring. It's something we actively protect and model. Where professional growth is supported through ongoing mentorship, continuing education that actually interests you (not just whatever gets you CEUs), and collaborative opportunities that feed your soul along with your expertise.
Because here's the truth: when clinicians feel supported, valued, and empowered to do their best work, that energy ripples out to every client interaction. This isn’t just about creating a workplace; we're nurturing a community of professionals who are passionate about this work and have the resources to sustain that passion for the long haul.
Your well-being matters. Your professional growth matters. Your voice in shaping how we do things here matters. And when you feel that in your bones, it shows up in the room with your clients in ways that can't be taught—only experienced.
We’re a small but mighty business, which means we take our time and do things with care. Right now, our focus is on supporting our current clinicians, so we won’t be hiring again until 2026.
If you’d like to be considered when the time comes, please send us your resume—we’d love to reach out when we’re ready to grow! We want to give you the same attention and support we give our team.
