Individual Therapy in Dallas, Houston & all of Florida (virtually)
Culturally-informed therapy for anxiety, trauma, identity, and life transitions. Work one-on-one with a therapist who understands your unique experience.
What Is Individual Therapy?
Individual therapy (also called counseling or psychotherapy) is a collaborative process where you work one-on-one with a licensed therapist to address personal challenges, process emotions, and develop strategies for healing and growth. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, or identity exploration, therapy provides a confidential, judgment-free space to work through what's weighing on you.
At Intentional Therapy, our therapists specialize in culturally-informed care for BIPOC, Asian Americans, LGBTQIA+, and children of immigrants. We understand the unique pressures of navigating multiple identities, family expectations, and systems that weren't built for you. You won't need to explain your cultural background or justify your experiences—we get it.
How Individual Therapy Works
A clear, step-by-step process designed to support your healing journey
Free 15-Minute Consultation
We start with a brief phone or video call to discuss what brings you to therapy, answer your questions, and determine if we're a good fit. This is a no-pressure conversation to see if our approach aligns with your needs.
First Session: Getting to Know You
Your first session (usually 60-90 minutes) is about understanding your story, background, current challenges, and therapy goals. We'll discuss confidentiality, your therapist will explain their approach, and you'll start building trust. You're in control of what you share and at what pace.
Creating Your Treatment Plan
Based on your goals, we'll develop a collaborative treatment plan that outlines what you want to work on, therapeutic approaches we'll use, and how we'll measure progress. This isn't set in stone—it evolves as you do.
Ongoing Sessions: The Work Begins
Most clients meet weekly or biweekly for 50-60 minute sessions. Each session builds on the last as we process emotions, identify patterns, develop coping skills, and work toward your goals. Some sessions feel heavy, others feel lighter—that's all part of the process.
Progress Check-Ins
Every few sessions, we'll pause to reflect on your progress, adjust goals if needed, and ensure therapy still feels helpful. Therapy is collaborative—your feedback shapes how we work together.
Ending Therapy (When You're Ready)
Therapy doesn't last forever. When you've met your goals and feel equipped to navigate challenges independently, we'll discuss ending therapy or spacing out sessions. You can always return if new challenges arise.
